Free Computer Consultant's Tip-Of-The-Week e-Zine for August 3, 2007 -------------------------------------------------------------------
Some day, some day, I think a lot of people are going to wake up and regret all of the time they spent on sites like myspace.com and facebook.com.
Maybe it will take waking up one day and realizing that someone else is no longer paying their bills, I don't know.
In the meantime, the geniuses at the Black Hat and Defcon hacker conferences are reporting major vulnerabilities at such social networking sites that can lead to malicious code being installed on the visitors PC. But that has happened before.
The people who frequent those sites don't seem to care.
Maybe I'm just too old to see the value in such sites, and spending hours watching idiots on video.
The one cool thing that MySpace does offer is TV on Demand. Now don't get me wrong, I still think such programs as are offered are a waste of time.
But the cool thing is that you can supposedly watch HD TV over your internet connection. This is something that current video providers don't seem to get.
It's just possible that when broadband in the U.S. catches up to where it already is in some other parts of the world, then Dish Network, Cable providers, and anyone else offering TV via a proprietary system could be in trouble. Big trouble.
The good news for them is that very few internet service providers seem interested in getting broadband where it needs to be.
I know mine isn't.
