The Green, Save the Earth movement is fine if you're into that sort of
thing, but I come from the background of waste not, want not. If you
weren't abusing the planet to begin with, then what's to change?

Sometimes being frugal is a good thing.

Take printing for example.

Most of us have a color printer of some kind, and we find ourselves
printing web pages - even if just as a receipt for an online purchase.

But do we need all of that in full color?

Save some money and a little bit of planet by selecting File | Print,
then go into the properties of your printer. Every print driver is a
little different, but you should see a tab about Paper/Quality. If
you have a color printer, one of the options should be to choose
between color or black and white.

If you don't need color, print just black and white, it's cheaper.

Do you have laser printer that takes forever to warm up, causing your
electric meter to shift into high gear and your utility company to
burn a bigger hole in the ozone?

Then consider printing to PDF on your desktop, then when you have a
bunch of stuff to print, turn the power hog on and print everything
at once.

Might save a few bucks and even save the earth all in one shot.
