Internet Security Software
Symantec released a list of the 10 worst computer viruses of all
time, list here:
Brain, 1986
Michelangelo, 1991
Melissa, 1999
ILOVEYOU, 2000
Code Red, 2001
Nimda, 2001
Klez, 2001
Slammer, 2003
MyDoom, 2004
Storm, 2007

user behavior (bad behavior in this case) is responsible for many
viruses becoming worse problems than they need to be. The "I
Love You" virus being notable in that regard. (Come on, you
know better, right?)
Recently, however, several users at my client's businesses became
victims of what I believe were "drive by" infections. Essentially,
this is the case where a legitimate website has been hacked and
unsuspecting visitors get infected just by surfing to this
otherwise safe site.
Fortunately, our internet security software kept everything
contained, so I definitely recommend you use a quality product.
While there are a couple of notable, high quality, no cost,
antivirus software out there (avast, AVG), these products
don't typically cover all the bases.

where I explain what internet security software I recommend for
my clients. (This is for their homes; in the office we use an
enterprise product, Trend Micro Client/Server/Messaging
Security for SMB.)
If you want all of the bases covered, I do recommend you
actually pay for a good internet security software. The price
isn't that bad, especially if you have 3 computers. Both
vendors I recommend allow you to install on up to 3 PC's
for about the same price as 1.
But remember, just because you have a seat belt and air
bags doesn't mean you can drive recklessly. Use common
sense when surfing and opening attachments.
