Quick note on Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3).

Don't install it unless you know you need it.

HP (Hewlett Packard) is especially recommending not to install it
on their AMD processor products (Another reason to stick with Intel).

This is also a time to remind you that I NEVER turn on automatic
updates in Windows and let it automatically install the software.

If you want to be notified of updates, great; but check them out
before downloading and installing. Unless it's a CRITICAL security
issue, waiting a week or two will likely not hurt you - but
installing it right away could. Let someone else work out the bugs.

FireFox 3
-----------------

Many of you know that I highly recommend FireFox as a better
web browser to use than Microsoft's IE (Internet Explorer). Well,
version 3 of FireFox is due to be released soon. Don't be the first
to install, but be waiting for it. Also check your favorite plug-ins
to make sure they support version 3 before moving to it.

OpenOffice
-----------------

If you want a quality word processor, spreadsheet, presentation
and database software but don't want to shell out hundreds of
dollars for Microsoft's buggy Office product, OpenOffice is a
great alternative. They are about to release a new version also.

Oh, and the give it away - for f/r/e/e !

I highly recommend it.
