Free Computer Consultant Tip-Of-The-Week for August 15, 2008

This week I would like to highlight the topic of a must read blog
post I just did - Bootable Rescue CDs for your computer:

If you have a computer, you need one of two things:
1.) A computer guy who will help you at a moment's notice (who
has his own bootable rescue CDs)

2.) Your own bootable rescue CD(s)

If you don't have #1, you need #2.

At some point in time, your computer will give you a problem
such that it will not boot up. To trouble shoot, fix and / or
recover data, the best tool to have on hand is a bootable
rescue CD that will let you scan for (and clean) viruses and
malware, copy data to a USB thumb drive or hard disk, give you
the opportunity to diagnose your PC failure.

I highlight 4 such rescue CDs that you can have for the taking.

Others are out there that might be better, but they operate via
a yearly subscription which most of you probably don't want to
spend the money on.

My advice is to create at least one if not all four rescue
CDs now, while your PC is still working properly. The reason
you might want all four is because nothing is perfect; and
what one doesn't fix another one might.
