Free Computer Consultant Tip-Of-The-Week for October 17, 2008

There is a lot of press lately about clickjacking which promises
to be a serious threat. Hopefully before the attacks get serious
the browser people will be ready. Using Mozilla?

There are many ways someone can turn your PC to their advantage;
with clickjacking you can be real savvy and still not realize it's
happening.

Some of the exploits out there will even turn your webcam and/or
microphone on without you knowing it.

Computing in your underwear?

Got that laptop in your bedroom? your boardroom?

...

Some webcams, if not integrated in the PC, have a dandy cover that
you can flip down when not using - I recommend using it!

When it comes to the microphone, maybe the only way - if you can't
unplug it - is to go into control panel and open your sound
software (varies depending on what sound card/chipset your PC has)
and "mute" the microphone.

This is going to be inconvenient if you Skype or video chat a lot,
but you never know, you just might thank me later.

Always keep you security software up to date and don't go surfing
where you know you shouldn't.
