One topic I probably should cover more frequently is PC Speed Up
utilities. There is a huge market for these products; no surprise
there, but many of them just aren't worth the money.

Now that the economy is in the toilet, many PC users won't be doing
what they used to do when their PC became to slow: they went out
and bought another one!

Personally, I don't think that is the correct answer regardless of
how good the economy is, but whatever - their money.

Most of my readers seem to be a bit more frugal than that.

Therefore, while it is on my todo list to create a report on how
to get like new performance back from your PC, I thought I would
bring up this topic in the interim.

An information service that I trust recently reviewed some PC
Speedup utilities and found that they really had no effect for the
typical user.

Those utilities are, in no special order, PC Speeduper (which only
gets the prize for using poor English), System Speedup Wizard,
SpeedUpMyPC 2009, and Windows Performance.

Don't waste your money on any of these four.

On the other hand, a bloated and fragmented registry is the likely
reason for long boot up times with Windows PC's.

One utility from a company that is reputable and has gotten good
reviews, is PC Tools.

PCTools has a registry mechanic that does really help computers
that are lagging due to bloated and fragmented registries. They
offer a free trial, but limit what the program will do for you
during that free trial.

If you think your aging PC is sluggish you might want to give
this trial offer a go.

Please remember my past tips about backing up your computer and
creating restore points before installing new software.

Here's the link to the trial of Registry Mechanic 8:
