Safe Surfing and Protecting Kids
======================================
Before I start with today's topic I think it's
especially
appropriate to mention that it is tax season again.
Appropriate
especially since Mr. Obama, formerly Mr. Soak the Rich but
more
recently Mr. Tax Cut for (almost) Everyone, takes the helm of
the
titanic on Tuesday.
My pick for tax software for the last number of years has
been
TaxCut from H&R Block. I left TurboTax a long time ago, but
every
year I take another look just in case ... Still using
TaxCut
Check it out here:

From time to time I have a client ask me about surfing
software
that will protect their kids and family from the darker side
of
the internet.
This week one of my clients with a foster child in the home
asked
what they could do to help keep this child on the straight
and
narrow, since, for school he MUST have internet access.
So I looked around again and came up with the same answer
as
every time before.
Currently it's on special for about $10 off. (Don't know for
how
long).
You can take a look at Net-Nanny here:

This is not only important to protect the child, it also
protects
your computer. The vast majority of threats for your computer
will
come from trying to obtain illegal music or software keys
and
internet porn.
New Year's day is a good day to replace smoke alarm
batteries,
whether they need it or not.
January is a good time to make sure you have the latest
and
greatest protection for your computer also. Several
internet
security suites, recently updated for the new year,
are well up to the task.
In no particular order of mine:
AVG (3 PC's is $10 more)

ZoneAlarm (up to 3 PC's - I do NOT buy the download
protection,
but I do make sure I have the downloaded file safely backed
up)

Trend Micro (up to 3 PC's)

Until next time...
