"Spring Cleaning That Could Be Fun"
Before doing any Spring cleaning of your PC, please!
BACKUP.
You will see posts in the recent blog category about some
issues
I encountered just this past week.
Well the Spring Cleaning that could be fun is your Bookmarks
in
Firefox (which I hope you use) or Favorites in Internet
Explorer.
If you are like most people, you bookmark a page but never
go back
to it. You also probably just have one long list of
bookmarks
instead of a nicely organized list with categories.
When you have a minute, start going through your bookmarks
/
favorites and check to see:
* which ones are dead - delete them;
* which ones should be grouped together, and group them
* which ones you will never need in at least 2 years and
delete
You probably cannot do it all in one sitting, but I suggest
you
start.
-----------
Different kind of cleaning (Ok, less fun).
Is your computer fan louder than it used to be? If so, it
could
be that your computer is hotter inside than it used to be.
* How is the airflow around the computer, is it boxed into
a
small area with stuff jammed all around it?
* After backing up, take your computer outside with a can
of
computer approved compressed air and blow out all of the
vent
areas on the PC.
* Take the cover off and first pull out the dust bunnies
and
cat / dog hair furballs, then blow it out.
* Pay particular attention to the CPU heatsink/fan unit
(might
be under a plastic housing in a PC like Dell and also the
power
supply. These areas are designed to have lots of air
movement
over them for cooling - naturally, dust buildup happens
there.
Dust, dirt and grime (depending on the environment that
the
PC is in) that attaches to computer components act as an
insulator and cause the component to retain heat.
Heat to electronic components is a death sentence.
A clean PC is a cool PC is a happy PC - with a happy
owner:
YOU!
-----------
You will notice several blog posts about coupons also. With
the
economy what it is, many vendors are discounting - that's good
for
you and me.
Until next time...
