Free Computer Consultant Tip-Of-The-Week for June 26,
2009
--------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bad News"
The good news is that I'm not here to talk about the deaths
of
Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett!
The bad news is that last week's tip was one of the most
popular
I have ever written. And I have more bad news in "section 2"
below.
I judge popularity by how many people open the email (not a
perfect
science) and how many people click the links I provide.
You might think high quality free tools get the most
response, but
that's not what happens. One of the BEST ways to protect
your
computer that is absolutely fr.e.e that I wrote about a couple
of
months ago was the LEAST responded to. Go figure.
Last week I wrote about a program to make money online that
I
feel is the best I have come across; anyone can do it and
you
can start with an investment of zero.
It was hugely popular, and while not free, very
inexpensive.
I take that as bad news because I think it means that people
are
hurting for money.
Further complicating the bad news is that this program is
not
a way to get rich quick, and it does require some honest
work.
But the work pays off, in your wallet.

Section 2 - More Bad News
-------------------------
This bad news is that XP is showing its age.
Windows XP (after service pack 1) has been a good friend;
especially
Windows XP SP2 (service pack 2).
Service Pack 3 I am less enamored with, and there is
evidence that
Windows XP is getting tired in general. Happened to Windows
2000 Pro
before, it's happening to XP now.
Whether Microsoft builds in sluggishness via some updates,
who
can say. But after all of the "security" patches and other
updates,
the operating system just plain slows down.
I will be planning on moving to Windows 7 as soon as I
can.
It seems that even new builds of Windows XP lose their
stability
earlier and earlier. Getting frustrating.
Reviews of Windows 7 are very good overall, and unless you
are
planning to switch to Ubuntu or Mac (both good choices for
some)
then Windows 7 is in your future.
You can either embrace it willingly or kicking and
screaming.
Your choice.
Windows 7 is now available for preorder through amazon.
