I have written extensively about my love of
Acronis True Image Software and how many times is has saved my
bacon. But some people just won't pay for software no matter
how good it is, even when reasonably priced.
Well, have I got a deal for you.
Own a Maxtor hard drive? If so, how would
you like to get a (slightly stripped down) version of Acronis
True Image Software for free? That's right, FFRREEEE.
Maxtor's MaxBlast5 Program - Acronis True
Image Home (Basic)
The DiscWizard program (download here ) is really Acronis True Image Home
version, minus the bells and whistles. The bells and
whistles are greyed out, if you click on them they will tell
you that the feature exists in the paid version.
Here's the thing: A lot of people don't use
those bells and whistles.
Here is what you DO get:
The ability to completely backup (image) your hard
drive
The ability to completely restore your hard drive
from the image
The "add a disk" wizard
Key Feature - The ability to mount
an image as a drive letter and explore, copy, etc.
from that drive letter
Key Feature - Create Bootable
Media; This is a good way to create an image, but
especially key for restores
Requirements
From what I can tell, as long as there is a
seagate hard drive in the system, the program will work. I
presume that if you have more than one hard drive and the other
is not a Maxtor you can still image that drive as
well.
Seagate Owns Maxtor
I have not been a fan of Maxtor drives for a
long time. Synonymous with cheap for years in my book. If a
drive failed, open the cover and there was about an 80% chance
it was a Maxtor.
So I questioned when Seagate, known for
reliability, bought Maxtor and bragged about how they weren't
going to change the "high quality" known in Maxtor drives.
Be that as it may, Seagate also has a version
of Acronis True Image Software for Maxtor drives.
Is this software for you?
I think Acronis True Image Software is for
everyone. If you only care about full images of your seagate
hard drive, then why not download this free utiltity now?
But I think that once you see Maxtor
MaxBlast5 in action, you will want the full version. I
think Acronis thinks so to, which would be why they would make
such fantastic software (even with the limitations) available
for free.
