FREE File Conversion Software

The Zamzar web based file conversion utility will accept a variety of different types of files and convert them to another type of file chosen from a drop down list.

The file is uploaded to Zamzar.com, is converted, then a link to download the file is emailed to you. Simple. From what I can tell, Zamzar's privacy policy will not allow them to rent, sell or abuse the email address you give them (you could even use a one-time address like mailinator.com) and they are currently clean of any malware.

Like any conversion utility, some conversions go better than others. Since PDF file conversion is so poplular, I tried the PDF file conversion to Word. The PDF I chose had many graphics, and many ended up overlaid on the text. But, some value was received. Converting from PDF to Word usually is accomplished with some form of scanning software, followed up by OCR (optical character recognition) so it's bound to never be perfect.

Audio file conversion and Video file conversion supported as well.
